Children's Liturgy of the Word
OUR PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN FROM AGE 6 TO 12 YEARS OF AGE WILL BEGIN ON SUNDAY, SEPT. 28, DURING THE 11 AM MASS. - Purpose of this Ministry:
Children's Liturgy of the Word is intended to help children ages 6 to 12 years (Grade 1-6) better understand the readings of the day for Sunday Mass. The Scripture text is modified for children's listening and comprehension skills.
Ministry Description:
Children ages 6-12 years are dismissed from Mass before the Liturgy of the Word begins. They are brought to the Reflection Room where they listen to the First Reading and the Gospel. The response to the Psalm and the Gospel.
Importance of this Ministry in the Life of the Church:
Children are able to gather as a community and listen to the Word of God in a format they can understand. This is an opportunity for them to learn, grow, and share their knowledge of God's Word. They also learn of God's love for them, and how they can return that love to others.
Time Commitment for Ministers:
This program is offered during the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday. The children are dismissed before the Liturgy of the Word and do not return until the Offertory procession takes place. The total time involved is about 30 minutes. Adults leaders accompany the children to the Reflection Room (and thus are absent from the assembly for the readings and the homily).
Qualifications for this Ministry:
Candidates should possess a love of children as well as a willingness and desire to teach. Knowledge of the Bible is also helpful. A patient and calm temperament is beneficial. Ministers should also set a good example of Christian life and attend Mass regularly. All candidates are expected to submit to the requirements of finger-printing and training for child safety.
