Finishing touches in August
As the date of the Dedication Mass approached, a miracle unfolded before our eyes. Pews were quickly assembled and installed. Work continued on the brick veneer, and the two stained glass windows of Our Lady of the Assumption took their rightful place. The reredos was shrouded until opening day, only rarely revealed for adjustments. Outdoors, the planters and living landscape were made ready, and the patio was transformed from a work site to an outdoor living space.
Work is advancing rapidly on flooring in the nave of the church, framing the stained glass windows in dark wood, installation of paving blocks on the patio, painting inside and outside, and framing the church steps.
Crews are completing work on the tile roof after placement of an expansion joint at the peak. The cast was placed above the arch in preparation for a stained glass window. Inside crews are finishing interior walls, framing stained glass inside, and installing chandeliers. The reredos wall will be installed behind the altar as soon as it arrives from the port (shipment from Peru).
Recent accomplishments include building planters in front, getting archway ready for veneer, installing HVAC ducting and equipment, and mezzanine stairs inside.
Recent accomplishments include pouring the concrete slab for the vestibule and framing the new vestibule, completing the north roof, finishing the outdoor canopy and seating, and breaking through the side of the church for a handicapped accessible reconciliation room. Excavation has begun on the front steps and planters.
The foundation for the vestibule has been poured, the trellis completed over patio and restroom entrances, Tiles are being installed on north side of roof, and fire sprinkler system is being installed. Designers consulted on floor samples, wall tiles, countertops and upholstery fabric.
Progress is being made on pouring footings for the patio and walkway behind the auditorium, beginning construction of the vestibule in front of church, completing the replacement of tiles on the roof, and moving the sanctuary steps forward in the church interior.
