The Catholic Daughters of the Americas strive to embrace the principle of faith working through love in the promotion of justice, equality, and the advancement of human rights and dignity of all. The state organization has a website at www.CatholicDaughtersCalifornia.org.
The Catholic Daughters Court Queen of Heaven No. 1636 is one of the oldest organizations in the parish. It was founded on May 17, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pomona with 30 charter members. (The last charter member at OLA died in April of 2010.) The chapter was moved to OLA in 1998 at the invitation of Fr. Tom Welbers, pastor, whose mother had been a member of the organization.
Five officers are elected every other year: Regent, Vice Regent, Recording Secretary, Financial Secretary and Treasurer. The District Deputy works with state officers. The chapter is affiliated with state and national Catholic Daughters of the Americas and support their charities. The chapter participates in district installations and initiation, state conventions, and the national convention. The chapter also attends four Masses together as a court. The state organization supports ten college scholarships for young women entering a Catholic institution. The national organization sponsors a biannual contest for students in elementary and high schools in categories of art, essay, poetry, computer art, music and photography for cash prizes.
At OLA, the Catholic Daughters serve at "coffee and donuts" and at other parish receptions upon request, including the receptions for Confirmation and our Patronal Feast Day. In January, the group raises funds with a "white elephant" auction.
All women of the parish are welcome and eligible to join the organization.
